OPEN LECTURE: THE SPANISH LEGAL SYSTEM AND ITS CONNECTION WITH PHILIPPINE LAW: PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE A Lecture in Honor of Professor Ruben Figueroa Balane

Tomorrow, 9th December 2021, the University of the Philippines and the University of Málaga will jointly present an online open lecture in Honor of Professor Ruben Figueroa Balane.

This lecture, by Professor Dr. Jose Manuel de Torres Perea, entitled “The Spanish Legal System and Its Connection With Philippine Law: Past, Present, and Future”, takes a close look at the past, present, and future of Philippine-Spanish legal relations and will introduce the historical roots of Philippine-Spanish legal relations, from its ancestry under Roman law to its evolution and influence in shaping the current Spanish legal system and the principles governing Spanish society today.

Professor Solomon F. Lumba, Associate Dean of the UP College of Law, will serve as a reactor to Professor Dr. Perea’s lecture.

The event, which will take place from 4 to 6pm (Philippine) / 9:00 to 11 a.m. (Spain), is part of CALESA or “Capacity Building for Legal and Social Advancement in the Philippines” – a project funded by the European Commission under the Erasmus + Capacity Building Higher Education Programme.
