Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU)

Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU) is the flagship university of the Jesuit-run Ateneo university network in the Philippines. It is a member of the ASEAN University Network (AUN), the Association of Christian Universities and Colleges in Asia (ACUCA), the University Mobility for Asia and the Pacific (UMAP), and the ASEAN International Mobility for Students (AIMS).

More than 150 years after the Jesuits returned to the Philippines, ADMU has grown into a major Jesuit university whose schools include a college and a graduate school, four professional schools, two basic education units, and an array of research and development centres. It has four campuses and over 100 academic degree programs. As a Filipino, Catholic and Jesuit institution for higher learning that is globally competitive while Asian in perspective, ADMU is committed to national development and the promotion of social justice through its research and creative work, its leadership in service to others and the environment, and its engagement in forming young leaders for the country. Currently, the University has over 13,500 undergraduate and  post graduate students.

The Ateneo Law School (ALS), one of the four professional schools of ADMU, was established in 1936. It pioneered the offering of the Juris Doctor (J.D.) program in the Philippines, first conferring the degree to its graduates in 1991.  It also offers the only LL.M. Program in the country that focuses on international law and requires students to specialize in one of the following fields of law: (1) International Corporate and Business Law, (2) International Economic Law, (3) International Human Rights Law, and (4) Intellectual Property Law.

Attached to ALS are the following centres and offices:

1) Graduate Legal Studies Institute serves as a resource centre for academic research and graduate legal studies in various fields of law and law reform.

2) The Fr. Joaquin G. Bernas, S.J. Institute for Continuing Legal Education and Research provides a venue for continuing legal education and certificate programs.

3) Ateneo Human Rights Centre is one of the first university-based institutions in the Philippines engaged in the promotion and protection of human rights in the country and in the ASEAN.

4) Ateneo Legal Services Centre provides legal assistance to the poor and disadvantaged through a competently supervised student practice and clinical legal education program.

Finally, the Ateneo Law Journal is the official academic journal of the Ateneo Law School
